Teresa Jackson - Head Yoga Instructor 

Teresa is both a student and teacher of yoga and is deeply committed to sharing her passion for mindfulness practices.  Her personal yoga practice, which she defines as breathwork, physical postures, meditation, mantras, mudras, time in nature, along various other wellness practices, has enabled her to navigate major life transitions, as well as grow and transform her every day life.  


Teresa holds a BA in Psychology/Sociology, along with certifications in 200 hour Traditional Hatha YTT, 300 hour Yoga Psychology YTT, 95 hour Childrens YTT, Trauma Informed Yoga, Warriors at Ease, Yoga for 12 Step Recovery and Shamanic Reiki Master.  Her passion is combining all of her education and trainings to help both adults and children find their unique light through physical postures (asana), breathwork (pranayama), affirmations (mantra) and meditation. In all of her sessions, she offers practices to aid in self awareness, self care, relaxation, reduction of stress , anxiety, and depression, along with a deeper connection of mind, body and soul.


Teresa created  her business ,The Pure Light Yoga, with the following mission :

To provide tools and guide others in finding the balance and combination of personalized wellness practices for self regulation. These practices can help to reduce anxiety, stress, and feelings of depression , as well as increase

self-love, self-care, compassion for self and others, and creating feelings of calm, quiet relaxation, and restoration.


Teresa is a lover of nature and spends a lot of her time relaxing and rejuvenating at the ocean, walking and exploring in the woods, and hiking and biking trails in the NC mountains whenever she can get up there!  She is grateful for the abundant love of her husband and two adult children, her widowed mother, her two feline fur babies and four granddogs.  She is humbled and extremely appreciative for the opportunity to serve her community  through The Studio at Cape Carteret.

Lori McCracken Zeswitz - Yoga Instructor


Following physical therapy for a back injury in 2005, Lori skeptically ventured into a gentle yoga class as a non-pharmaceutical way to navigate pain and redevelop her body’s capacity. “Something happened” on the yoga mat and Lori began studying how her body, breath and mind can connect to heal, replenish and improve quality of life. Lori’s personal practice over the years has resulted in the elimination of chronic pain and depression, and increased mobility, strength, and energy.

Lori completed in 2015 a nationally accredited 200-hour training achieving her national Certified Yoga Teacher credential. She also holds certifications to offer Warriors At Ease yoga and meditation practices to active duty and veteran military families, and Y12SR: Yoga of 12-Step Recovery, a relapse-prevention program for individuals dealing with behavioral and substance addiction. Lori leads accessible, mindful hatha yoga classes, focused on breathwork and ease of movement.

Lori holds a B.A. in public relations and enjoyed an exciting career in nonprofit management for professional performing arts, higher education and faith-centered community organizations. She and her husband Steve live in Swansboro. They have seven adult children, two grandchildren, and several four-legged dependents.

Layne Christensen- Yoga Instructor


Layne Christensen was born and raised in Durham, NC. Because she was a gymnast, dancer, and cheerleader in school so she often attended yoga classes. She earned a B.A. in psychology from Vanderbilt University. She then earned her Physician Assistant degree from Emory University.


Tired of the hustle and bustle of living in Atlanta, she returned to North Carolina and moved to Emerald Isle and decided to take some time to work on herself. Layne started practicing yoga daily and quickly realized that yoga was not only a form of exercise. Yoga is a way of life. She has helped her feel stronger both mentally and physically. Layne was always on the move and found it difficult to calm her mind as she has struggled with anxiety and depression. During her journey through practicing yoga she has learned that controlling your breath and combining the breath with the body can help her slow her brain down and be a happier, brighter person.


She is excited to share her journey and help others realize that yoga is for everyone. She completed a nationally accredited 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program and received her national Certified Teacher Training credential. She is excited to start this new chapter as a teacher herself.


You can often find her doing yoga, fishing, playing with her two dogs (Heidi-Ho and Piper) or all of the above at the point or on the beach. She loves being outside. She is also an artist, owner of LooLoo’s designs, and much of her artwork/bohemian designs are displayed and for sale in the studio.

Kara has been hard at work in the group fitness world for 20 years. She found her passion for teaching while attending college at Frostburg State University in Western Maryland. Ever since then she has found joy and excitement in leading others toward living their best life and having fun along the way.

She holds her national group exercise certification through AFAA and is certified in numerous speciality areas such as Les Mills programs, cycle, and barre. Barre has quickly become one of her favorite formats as it focuses on improving balance, flexibility, and strength; something she believes everyone can benefit from.

Kara lives here in Stella with her husband and 2 children. She stays busy being involved with her kids schools and sports.When not shuffling kids to sports and activities, she loves spending time with her family on the water.

Suz Spangler - Pilates Instructor
Certified Pilates


Suz Spangler is a Cape Carteret resident and former Pilates studio owner. She is classically and dually trained through the Physical Mind Institute and Peak Pilates. She was one of the first nationally certified Pilates instructors through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA.) Suz is certified in Pilates Mat and on all of the Pilates apparatus (equipment.) Her passion is  to help people rehabilitate, feel stronger, and move with grace and control.
